Senior earns conference Athlete of the Week award after third-fastest time in program history
HOUSTON – Senior Sydni Townsend ran the third-fastest 400-meter hurdles time in school history and the second-fastest in the American Athletic Conference this year at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet on Saturday and was named the conference's Women's Track Athlete of the Week as a result. Â
Â
Townsend, who won the 400-meter hurdles at Rice on Saturday, ran 57.53 seconds, which ranks second in the conference this season and 29th nationally.
Â
The hurdler has posted back-to-back top 10 program times in the 400 hurdles after running the program's eighth fastest 400 hurdles time at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Â
The senior from Philadelphia, Pa., is just 0.56 seconds away from breaking assistant coach Sandra Glover's school record of 56.97 set in 1991.
Â
Townsend's time is the fastest by a Cougar since 2018 and ranks 10th in the NCAA West Preliminary Round rankings. Â
