Svedenskiold Leads Women’s Golf at ICON Invitational

Freshman fires Final-Round 68 to lead Cougars at Golf Club of Houston on Tuesday
HUMBLE, Texas – University of Houston sophomore Moa Svedenskiold drained five birdies on the way to a 68 to lead the Cougars and finish in a tie for 28th following the Final Round of the ICON Invitational at Golf Club of Houston on Tuesday afternoon.
As a team, the Cougars posted their low round of the tournament at 290 and finished 15th with a score of 876 on the 6,162-yard, par-72 course.
Svedenskiold started her Final Round with a quick start, sinking a birdie on the 478-yard, par-5 13th hole.
Following three pars, the Halmstad, Sweden, native made two birdies in a 3-hole stretch from No. 17 to No. 1.
After two more pars, she birdied her second par-5 hole at No. 4 and added her final birdie of the day at No. 9 to finish with a 54-hole score of 2-under 214.
#10 Texas A&M captured the team championship with a score of 34-under 830 to finish 10 shots ahead of #50 North Texas. #11 USC finished fourth at 842 while #18 Oklahoma State came in fourth at 844 with #27 Iowa State (846), #45 Maryland (847), #6 NC State (847), #29 Texas Tech (851), #28 SMU (853) and Illinois (855) rounding out the Top-10 leaders.
Texas A&M's Zoe Slaughter earned medalist honors with a score of 18-under 198. North Texas' Audrey Tan and Iowa State's Liyana Durisic tied for second at 2013 with SMU's Mackenzie finishing fourth at 204.
Super senior Annie Kim tied for 30th at 215 while junior Delaney Martin tied for 68th at 224. Super senior Becca Earl tied for 70th at 225 with freshman Natalie Saint Germain tied for 8th at 230.
Playing as individuals, junior Nicole Abelar tied for 30th at 1-under 215 after shooting her third straight round of par or lower. Freshman Alexa Saldana tied for 41st at 217 while redshirt freshman Brooke Morales tied for 74th at 226. Sophomore Anna Economon finished 89th at 239.
THE CHEVRON CHAMPIONSHIP
With her individual title, Slaughter earned a playing spot in The Chevron Championship Official Pro-Am on April 18 as part of Chevron's commitment of providing access and opportunity for female collegiate golfers.
The Chevron Championship, the first LPGA Tour Major of the season, will take place at The Club at Carlton Woods for the first time on April 20-23.

Following the ICON Invitational, Houston opens the month of March when it tees off at the Trinity Forest Invitational, hosted by SMU at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas on March 6-7.
From there, the Cougars will compete at the MountainView Collegiate. That three-day event will be held at MountainView Country Club in Saddlebrook, Ariz., on March 17-19.
