Swimming & Diving Set to Defend Title at American Championships

Houston looks to win seventh consecutive title with meet action beginning Monday
DALLAS – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program has its sights set on a seventh straight conference title when it competes in the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championships beginning Monday at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.
The diving portion of the meet will be held Monday through Wednesday, while the swimming portion of the meet runs Wednesday through Saturday.

Houston will compete against current American members Cincinnati, East Carolina, SMU and Tulane and four new affiliate members, Florida Atlantic, FIU, North Texas and Rice.

At the 2022 American Championships, Houston defeated host SMU by half a point to earn its sixth consecutive title and first under Head Coach Tanica Jamison. In addition to the 200 and 400-yard medley relay titles, Henrietta Fangli, Adelaide Meuter, Abby Jackson and Chase Farris helped lead the Cougars to four individual titles.

Since the creation of the American in 2013, the Cougars have earned 35 individual swimming event titles, 20 relay titles and 17 diving titles. The Cougars won their first of six consecutive American Conference titles in 2017.

This will be Houston's final appearance at the American Championships before formally becoming a member of the Big 12 Conference on July 1.
