Jimenez Named Big 12 Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week

Freshman marketing major earns award after setting two program top-10 times on Friday
HOUSTON – University of Houston freshman Elizabeth Jimenez was named the Big 12 Conference's Women's Co-Newcomer of the week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Jimenez earned Houston Swimming & Diving's first Big 12 Conference honor as she set two program top-10 times in the 100 and 200-yard back events at the Dust Off Your Boots Invitational. She placed second in both events, posting a 55.30 in the 100-yard back and a 1:59.17 in the 200-yard back.

AÂ native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Jimenez also placed third in both the 400-free and the 200-yard medley relay.
Texas' Emma Kern also picked up Co-Newcomer of the Week honors.

Jimenez will represent the Dominican Republic at the 2023 Pan American Games hosted in Santiago, Chile, on Oct. 20-Nov. 5, 2023.

From Friday through Saturday, Houston will split its squad with swimmers heading across town for the Rice Fall Splash while the divers host Idaho, Incarnate Word and North Texas at the Houston Diving Invitational at the CRWC Natatorium with action beginning at 10 a.m., each day.
