Swimming & Diving Concludes Home Season Against Rice

Cougars post five first-place finishes on senior day
HOUSTON – Seniors Audrey McKinnon and Katie Deininger highlighted the University of Houston's Swimming & Diving program's senior meet with two first-place finishes each in Saturday's 159-135 loss against Rice at the CRWC Natatorium.
Six seniors, Jolie Blodgett, Deininger, Julia Koluch, McKinnon, Elizabeth Richardson, and Makayla Wallar were joined by family, friends, coaches and teammates prior to the start of the meet to honor their accomplishments during their time spent as Cougars.
Sophomore Mary Catherine Jurica started the day off for the Houston grabbing first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.35.
Senior Julia Koluch posted her first second-place performance of the season clocking in a time of 58.32 for a second in the 100-yard backstroke.
McKinnon raced to the finish line to take first-place in the 100-yard breaststroke scoring 1:03.79, followed by sophomore Henrietta Fangli taking second at 1:04.09.
The Cougars success continued in the 200-yard breaststroke, sweeping the top-three spots with McKinnon placing first (2:16.97), Sophie Anderson striking second (2:18.97) and freshman Virag Peter clinching third (2:19.71).
On the boards, Deininger earned first-place in both the 1-meter (298.20) and 3-meter (335.63) events.
Senior Chase Farris earned a Zone cut on the 1-meter with a score of 282.23, while senior Jolie Blodgett earned a Zone cut on the 3-meter, tallying a score of 305.63.
