Cougars, Owls to meet at 5 p.m. on week from Saturday on ESPN+
HOUSTON – University of Houston Football and Rice will meet for the Bayou Bucket Classic presented by H-E-B at 5 p.m. CT one week from Saturday at TDECU Stadium on ESPN+, the American Athletic Conference announced Monday.
Â
Fans can get in on the excitement of the cross-town rivalry's 44th edition by purchasing tickets for as low as $15. The Cougars lead the all-time series 32-11 and have won six consecutive matchups against the Owls, tied for the longest win streak in the series by either team (Houston, 6 games, 1987-92). The contest will also serve as the Cougars' Family Weekend.
Â
Despite being the two FBS schools in closest proximity to one another, Rice and Houston only first met in football in 1971 at Rice Stadium. Three years later, The Touchdown Club of Houston introduced the distinctive Bayou Bucket trophy to present to the winner.
Â
After opening its season with a pair of road games, Houston will play its next three contests at home beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday against Kansas. Seats start at just $12 for the future Big 12 Conference clash. The Cougars have won 14 of their last 16 home openers and are 35-12 all-time at TDECU Stadium.
Â
