Houston ranked in preseason poll for 12th time in program history
HOUSTON – For the 12th time in program history and first since 2016, the University of Houston Football program will enter the season ranked by Associated Press voters. The Cougars checked in at No. 24 in the first AP poll released Monday.
Houston, which was ranked No. 25 in the USA Today AFCA Coaches' Poll released last week, is among three Texas programs in the AP poll, joining Texas A&M (No. 6) and Baylor (No. 10). Fellow American opponent Cincinnati is ranked No. 23.
Houston opens its season two weeks from Saturday (Sept. 3) at UTSA. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. from the Alamodome and can be seen on CBS Sports Network. The in-state matchup is the lone FBS contest nationally on opening weekend featuring two 12-plus win teams from a season ago.
