American Athletic Conference recognizes 179 student-athletes on All-Academic Team
HOUSTON – A total of 179 University of Houston student-athletes have been named to the 2021-22 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, the latest highlight in another strong calendar year in the classroom, the conference office announced Thursday.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each member institution. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
Houston Soccer led all programs with 26 honorees followed by Swimming and Diving (24), Baseball (17) and Softball (16). In total, 11 teams registered 3.0 GPAs during the spring and seven recorded a 3.0 GPA during the fall semester.
Cross Country paced the way among all men's sports with a 3.35 GPA during the spring followed by Golf (3.02) and Baseball (2.80). On the women's side, Tennis notched a team-best 3.57 GPA followed by Soccer (3.56) and Swimming and Diving (3.52).
Houston student-athletes were recognized on the Dean's List 194 times during 2021-22 with 14 student-athletes earning a 4.0 GPA during the fall and 22 posting a perfect mark in the spring.
The University of Houston matched a new department benchmark as six sport programs earned perfect 1,000 scores in the 2020-21 Academic Progress Rate report, released by the NCAA in June. Men's Basketball, Men's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Women's Cross Country, Women's Golf and Volleyball each posted perfect scores.
