Senior standout, three-time captain among 114 nominees nationally
HOUSTON – University of Houston Football senior linebacker Donavan Mutin has been named a nominee for the 2022 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, recognizing student-athletes with exemplary community service, academic dedication and impacts on and off the field.
Â
The 114 nominees, announced Wednesday by Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), embody character, selflessness and willingness to serve others. The AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 and recognizes players across the FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA.
Â
Mutin is a two-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honoree and has served as a member of the Coogs' All-In Diversity & Inclusion Council in addition to playing a key role in two Equality Marches where he was a speaker at both events. The Spring, Texas, native has been a leading participant in Houston's partnership with Team IMPACT which pairs children of life-limiting and chronic illnesses with teams.
Â
On the field, the three-time team captain has been among The American's defensive standouts. The second-team all-conference honoree led the Cougars with 77 tackles while adding three forced fumbles, helping lead Houston to a 12-2 record a season ago.
