Houston Relay Team Secures No. 1 seed for NCAA Title Race

Men's 4x100-meter relay runs fastest time in semifinals, Ruiz finishes 12th
EUGENE, Ore. – A team of Jordan Booker, Dylan Brown, Edward Sumler IV and Shaun Maswanganyi recorded the fastest semifinal time in the men's 4x100-meter relay on the first day of the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.
The relay team clocked a season-best 38.66 automatically qualifying for finals on Friday. Maswanganyi followed that up with a qualifying time in the men's 100-meter at 10.15 to move onto finals. The sophomore picked up his second qualifying time in the men's 200-meter winning his heat with a season-best 20.26.
Quivell Jordan-Bacot rounded out the finals qualifying times with a 49.52 in the men's 400-meter hurdles. In the only finals event of the day, Antonio Ruiz completed his collegiate career with a 12th place finish in the men's pole vault clearing a height of 5.40-meters.
Last year, Maswanganyi finished second in the men's 100-meter and third in the 200-meter while Jordan-Bacot finished 9th in the 400-meter hurdles.
