Ruiz qualifies for NCAA Championship

Antonio Ruiz first Cougar to qualify for National Championships
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Senior Antonio Ruiz punched his ticket to the NCAA Championship in the men's pole vault on Wednesday night at the NCAA West Regional.
With a 5.39 meter clearance, Ruiz qualified with 11 other pole vaulters to automatically participate in the national championship in two weeks. Christyan Sampy finished 15th among the pole vaulters, just shy of the top 12 mark to qualify.
Houston hurdlers De'Vion Wilson, DJ Akindele and Quivell Jordan-Bacot all advanced to the semifinals in the men's 110-meter hurdles while Bacot-Jordan also qualified for the next round in the men's 400-meter hurdles.
Edward Sumler and Shaun Maswanganyi added to the Cougars semifinal qualifying list in both the men's 100- and 200-meter.
The men's semifinals will take place on Friday.

The second day of the NCAA West Regional starts with the women's hammer throw at 10 a.m. CT at John McDonnell Field at the University of Arkansas.
