Sumler IV, Wilson tabbed as American Outdoor Track Most Outstanding Performances

Sprinter Sumler IV, Hurdler Wilson garner post-season honors
HOUSTON – Following their performances at the American Conference Championships, sprinter Edward Sumler IV and hurdler De'Vion Wilson earned men's outdoor track most outstanding performance, the conference announced Thursday.Â
The awards are presented to student-athletes who recorded the highest-ranking marks on the NCAA's Division I performance list during last week's American Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Sumler IV and Wilson were each recognized for exemplary meet marks both ranking No. 11 nationally in their respective events.
Edward Sumler IV * Houston * Senior * 100-Meter Dash
Sumler ran a blazing fast men's 100-meter dash final to defeat Houston teammate Shaun Maswanganyi at the American outdoor championships. Sumler crossed the finish line with a time of 10.04 to check in 11th nationally on the NCAA performance list entering regional championship meets.

De'Vion Wilson * Houston * Sophomore * 110-Meter Hurdles
Wilson flew down the track in the men's 110-meter hurdles championship heat to take the event win for Houston at the outdoor championships. Wilson improved on his preliminary showing and clocked an even 13.50 in the final to take the win, ranking 11th in NCAA DI heading into regional action.
UP NEXT
Houston now turns its attention to the NCAA Regional Meet in Little Rock, Arkansas. The top 48 athletes in each event in the western regional will compete for a spot at the NCAA Championships.Â
