Adejokun Takes Silver in Hammer Throw After Day 1

Adejokun records personal best, nine qualify for finals
WICHITA, Kan. – Thrower Priscilla Adejokun recorded a second-place finish in the women's hammer throw as 10 track athletes qualify for finals on the first day of the Track and Field Conference Championships.Â
Adejokun claimed the silver medal with a sixth-round throw of 65.20m (213-11.0). Her mark was a personal best and ranks No. 26 in the nation. Miles Marhofer followed it up with a fifth-place finish in the men's hammer throw contributing four points to the men's overall team score.Â
Cecilia Tamayo-Garza clocked the fastest time in her heat of the women's 200-meter and automatically qualified for finals with a time of 23.42, a personal best.Â
The Cougars then saw four athletes qualify for finals in the men's 100-meter as Edward Sumler IV and Shaun Maswanganyi tabbed the top times in their heats. Jordan Booker and Dylan Brown also posted top times and secured a spot in finals.Â
In only her first meet of the season, Imari Chatman clocked a 1:00.72 in the women's 400-meter hurdles advancing to finals before Quivell Jordan posted the top qualifying time in the men's race. The 2021 400-meter hurdles champion, posted a 50.73 nearly a full second ahead of the rest of the field. De'Vion Wilson also earned an automatic bid to finals winning his heat at 51.50. The two hurdlers will also be joined by DJ Akindele and Dillon Leacock in finals as well.Â
At the end of day one, the women are in fifth with eight points and the men's team is in sixth with four points.
