Buccaneers, Patriots pick up Houston standouts
LAS VEGAS – Houston defensive lineman Logan Hall and cornerback Marcus Jones were selected on the second day of the 2022 NFL Draft on Friday.
Hall was selected with the first pick of the second round by Tampa Bay as the 33rd overall selection. Jones was drafted in the third round as the 85th overall selection by New England.
With the selections, a Cougar has been picked in the NFL Draft for a seventh straight year, the second-longest active streak in The American Athletic Conference. The seven-straight years with at least one NFL Draft pick marks the program's longest stretch since 1988-94.
Hall is the 31st top-two round selection in program history. He is the fourth Cougar to be taken by the Buccaneers all-time and second in as many seasons, joining Grant Stuard who went in the seventh round in 2021.
Jones is the highest selection for a Houston cornerback since William Jackson III went 24th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. He is the first Cougar to be drafted by the Patriots since 2016 when Elandon Roberts was selected by the franchise in the sixth round. It is the seventh time a Cougar has been drafted by New England in school history.
The NFL Draft concludes at 11 a.m. CT Saturday with rounds 4-7. The draft can be seen on ABC, ESPN and the NFL Network.
