Year-end award show celebrates historic 2021-22 year
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Athletics Department will celebrate its historic 2021-22 calendar year with the Cougar Choice Awards, set for Monday at 7 p.m. from the Fertitta Center.
The annual award show celebration includes 15 categories. This year's categories and award nominees include:

Play of the Year
- Football – Marcus Jones' 100-yard kickoff return touchdown vs. SMU inside one minute left in the game to defeat the Mustangs, 44-37, at TDECU Stadium.
- Men's Basketball – With less than 6 seconds remaining in double overtime and the game tied on the road, sophomore point guard Jamal Shead raced up the court and fed sophomore forward J'Wan Roberts for the game-winning dunk with just over a second left to lift the Cougars to a 76-74 win in double overtime in Wichita, Kan.
- Swim & Dive – Abby Jackson - 200-yard butterfly hundredths of a second win after coming from behind in the last few seconds of the race at AAC Championships to secure a 6.5 lead going into the last relay at conference
Game of the Year
- Men's Basketball – March 24 – Houston 72, #2/2 Arizona 60 – Cougars advance to NCAA Elite Eight for second straight season with win over No. 1 seed (South Region) Wildcats
- Men's Golf – Feb. 15 – Cougars capture Border Olympics team championship with score of 12-under 852 at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas ... Senior Alexander Frances earns first collegiate individual title of his career.
- Swim & Dive – Feb. 19 – Program clinches sixth consecutive American Athletic Conference championship
