Watkins, Reily Lead Men’s Golf vs. Sam Houston

Cougars fire even-par 72s in individuals-only tournament on Tuesday at Whispering Pines Golf Club
SPRING, Texas – Senior Braxton Watkins and junior Austyn Reily each fired even-par 72s to lead the University of Houston Men's Golf program at Whispering Pines Golf Club in an individuals-only tournament against Sam Houston State during its final regular-season event of the season on Tuesday afternoon.
The tournament was a recent addition to the Cougars' schedule.
Watkins and Reily joined Sam Houston's Gene Chaikangwal atop the individual leaderboard.
Senior Alexander Frances tied for fourth with a 73, joining the Bearkats' Jack Randle with that total.
Redshirt freshman Jacob Borow tied for sixth with a 74 and joined Chad Sewell and Grayson Blunt at that total, while junior transfer Marcus Wochner tied for ninth with a 76.

Freshman Logan Vargas finished 14th at 79, while freshman Julio Rios-Brache and senior Andrew Gibson tied for 15th at 81.

The Cougars take their first step in the postseason when they tee off at the American Athletic Conference Championships, beginning Friday morning at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville, Fla.
The winner of the league' annual postseason tournament receives an automatic bid to NCAA Regional play, set for May 16-18 at one of six sites across the nation.
