Lawrence breaks school record at Alumni Invitational

Destiny Lawrence broke the school record in the women's triple jump on Saturday
The Cougars recorded 13 first-place wins at the Houston Alumni Invitational including Lawrence's school record. Lawrence took first in the women's triple jump with a mark of 13.61m breaking a 2018 school record.
Edward Sumler IV came away with two first places finishes including first in the men's 100-meter with a personal best time of 10.22 and the 200-meter at 20.81.
DJ Akindele grabbed the top time in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a 13.98 time while Trey Johnson took the first spot in the men's 400-meter at 46.27.
Adam Mason recorded a personal best in the men's 800-meter at 1:52.29, his first race in the 800-meter since winning the Indoor American Conference title.
The Cougars swept the men's and women's 3000-meter titles as Brandon Seagreaves (8:26.21) and Claire Meyer (10:06.96) crossed the finish line first.
In the throwing events, Lusekelo Mwamukonda, Ryan Pickering and Nu'uausala Tuilefano all took first in their respective events. Mwamukonda earned a personal best in the men's discus with a 45.70m mark while Pickering tallied a 45.70m in the women's discus. Tuilefano rounded out the trio with the top mark in the women's shot put with a 16.92m.
In his first 2022 outdoor meet, Benjamin Okafor took first in the men's long jump with a 7.60m while Sarah Howe had a personal best in the women's pole vault at 4.10m.
Houston's relays teams contributed wins for the Cougars as a team of Mason, Johnson, Antonio Ruiz and Tyrell Valentine easily won the men's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:09.68 and Naomi Taylor, Cecilia Tamayo-Garza, Jayla Fields and Camille Rutherford took first in the women's 4x100 meter relay at 44.54.

The Cougars will now travel to LSU for the Joy May Invitiational on Saturday, April 9th.
