Giving Tuesday Gives Rise Campaign Another Boost

Nearly 100 unique donors give towards Houston Rise campaign
HOUSTON – The Houston Rise campaign, Houston Athletics $150 million drive to compete for championships in the Big 12 Conference, gained more momentum on Giving Tuesday, a day nationally dedicated to commemorating the power of philanthropy.
In the short 24-hour giving period, nearly 100 unique donors responded to the "Give 12" theme developed to celebrate the significance of the Cougars transition to the Big 12.
The mantra also embodies the Houston Rise push to expand the Cougar Pride Athletic Fund membership base, with a premium on participation. Since launch in June, the campaign's focus has been on building engagement across the greater Houston community.
Emphasis, therefore, has shifted away from the amount of a donation and towards the act of contributing – regardless of the dollar amount. The response to Giving Tuesday verified that Houston Rise is gaining ground relative to this important success factor.
The "Give 12" theme will continue through the month of December, with eligible "Give 12" participants to be recognized with a commemorative, Houston Rise exclusive "I-R12E" Nike Dri-FIT t-shirt.
The shirt is designed to honor those who have embraced the campaign at a most critical time in the history of Houston Athletics.
"Houston Rise is the easiest, most effective way to directly participate in the rise of Houston Athletics to the Big 12 Conference," said Senior Associate AD John Gladchuk.
"The effort over the past three decades to get to this point has been exceptional. Now that the opportunity we've waited for is here, we need to make sure, as Chris [Pezman, VP for Athletics] has stressed repeatedly, that we are prepared to compete at a championship level. We cannot simply count on those who have steadfastly supported us through the years. We need all Cougars – alumni, fans, friends – to recognize that what we do together today directly impacts our competitiveness in the Big 12."
