Rutherford highlights first day of G5 & Super 22 Invite

Rutherford, Vallejo-Bannister, Castleberry, Howe earn first place finishes
HOUSTON – Houston sprinter Camille Rutherford's 60-meter win highlighted the first day of the G5 & Super 22 Invitational at Yeoman Fieldhouse.
Women's 60 Meter
Rutherford clocked a 7.31 in the final of the women's 60-meter to take first place. She set a career-high in the semifinals with a 7.29 time to rank No. 10 in the nation. The freshman also crossed the line before 2016 Olympian Phyllis Francis and 2020 Olympian Tynia Gaither in the finals.
Women's 5K
Maddy Castleberry quickly took the lead in the women's 5K and quickly lapped the rest of the field. The distance runner clocked a personal best at 17:36.73 and the No. 1 time in the American conference.
Men's One Mile
Devin Vallejo-Bannister took the top time in the men's one mile. Vallejo-Bannister came from behind in the final lap of the race to take first place with a personal best of 4:09.94.
Women's Pole Vault
Sarah Howe recorded her second first-place finish this season in the pole vault. She cleared a 3.81 mark to take the win.
Men's 60 Meter Hurdles
Houston had two athletes place in the top 5 of the 60-meter hurdles. DJ Akindele tabbed a 7.87 for second place only four-hundredths of a second behind Olympian Jeff Julmis. De'Vion Wilson rounded out the top 4 in the event with a 7.99 time.
Men's Weighted Throw
Miles Marhofer placed second in the men's weighted throw tabbing a 19.06 mark. It was a season best and ranked No. 2 in the American. Johnny Howell took eighth with a 15.40 followed immediately by Lusekelo Mwamukonda in ninth at 14.72.
Men's 800 Meter
Adam Mason clocked a 1:54.14 in the men's 500 meter. His college debut in the event ended with a second-place finish only 0.18 of a second behind the first place and the No. 2 time in the American
Men's 5K
Brandon Seagreaves recorded a 15:15.81 in the men's one mile. He finished the race in second place with a personal best and the No. 6 time in the American.
Men's Long Jump
Houston sprinter Shaun Maswanganyi made his college debut in the men's long jump. The freshman tabbed a 7.44 mark for third in the event. Floyd Iglehard also placed in the top 10 with a personal best of 6.90 to take seventh place.
Women's 60 Meter Hurdles
Destiny Smith clocked a career-best in the women's 60-meter hurdle finals. Her 8.45 time, put her in third place in the event and No. 5 in the American conference.
Women's One Mile
Three Cougars finished in the top 10 in the women's one mile. Claire Meyer finished in third with a personal best of 5:05.02. Darby Gauntt immediately followed with a 5:05.08 in fifth place and Eleni Kaiser crossed the line with a 5:11.12 time for eighth.
