Houston Receives Academic Recognition from USTFCCCA

Cougar men and women rewarded for academic excellence
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program was recognized for academic excellence by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday afternoon with the announcement of its 2021 academic awards.

Nine men and nine women were recognized as 2021 NCAA Division I Track & Field All-Academic athletes and both the men's and women's teams were named All-Academic programs.Â
Â
All-Academic distinction is awarded to athletes with a minimum grade point average of 3.25 and ranked among the top-96 in the NCAA in their respective event during the indoor track & field season or the participants in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. There were more than 850 men named to the list and over 1,100 on the women's side. To be an All-Academic team, a program must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Several Houston Track & Field athletes are currently set to compete in Tokyo at the Olympic games that are taking place June 23 – Aug. 8. UH will be represented by Brianne Bethel (Bahamas), Tristan Evelyn (Barbados), Mario Burke (Barbados) and Shaun Maswanganyi (South Africa).
