Maswanganyi Secures Pair of Podium Finishes as UH Concludes Nationals

Houston freshman racks up three All-America honors
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field men concluded the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with 15 points. Five men closed out the meet with First Team All-America honors and the Cougars finished tied for 18th in the team standings.

Shaun Maswanganyi continues to put the world on notice and show just how high his ceiling is, closing out the day with a pair of podium finishes. Maswanganyi opened his day with a second-place finish in the 100-meter after clocking a time of 10.05. The freshman continued his busy day in the 200-meter with a third-place finish, recording the fourth-fastest time in program history in the event at 20.10. Maswanganyi becomes the first freshman sprinter in UH history to compete in the final of both the 100-meter and 200-meter at the NCAA Championships and is now a four-time First Team All-American. He accounted for 14 of the Cougars 15 points.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Quivell Jordan closed out the day with a ninth-place finish at 50.54. Jordan closes out his career at UH as the fifth First-Team All-American at Houston in the event.
The Houston 4x100-meter relay suffered a tough break, finishing eighth in the event. Travis Collins, Christian Hamberlin, Jordan Booker and Maswanganyi earned First Team All-America honors in the event.
The UH women will return to action tomorrow in the 4x100-meter with the race set to begin at 5:02 p.m. CT
