Sophomore becomes first First-Team All-American in Houston history
HOUSTON – University of Houston sophomore Karen Fredgaard made history Wednesday night when she became the first First-Team All-American in school history.
Fredgaard was joined on the Women's Golf Coaches Association First Team by Linn Grant (Arizona State), Rachel Heck (Stanford), Julian Johnson (Mississippi), Gina Kim (Duke), Ingrid Lindblad (LSU), Pauline Roussin-Bouchard (South Carolina), Emma Spitz (UCLA), Maja Stark (Oklahoma State), Beatrice Wallin (Florida State) and Angelina Ye (Stanford).
Criteria used to determine the WGCA All-America Teams included: head-to-head competition, comparison with common opponents, scoring average, finishes in regular-season events and tournament wins and strength of schedule.

ABOUT KAREN FREDGAARD
This was only the latest honor for Fredgaard during an award-winning 2020-21 season. She recently was named one of 10 finalists for the ANNIKA Award Watch List and was recognized as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
She recently became only the second student-athlete in program history to compete in the NCAA Championships. With a score of 292, she was the first Cougar to reach the Final Round of the nation's top collegiate tournament and set an NCAA Championships record low with a 70 in the Second Round.
As the nation's No. 5 (Golfstat) and No. 8 (Golfweek) player, Fredgaard was one of three student-athletes not from a qualifying team at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional to advance to the NCAA Championships.
This season Fredgaard established herself as one of the nation's and the world's premier amateur student-athletes. The Asserbo, Denmark, native led the Cougars with a 70.84 scoring average and 14 rounds of par or better.
In six tournaments played, she earned four Top-Five finishes and finished among the Top-10 leaders in all but one of those, including a third-place showing at The American Championships, thanks to a Final-Round 67.
Fredgaard captured the first individual title of her collegiate career at the UCF Challenge on Jan. 31-Feb. 2 and was honored as the Golfweek National Player of the Week and The American Player of the Week (the first of two conference weekly honors in 2020-21) following that performance.
In early April, Fredgaard stepped award from her collegiate competition schedule to finish third at the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur as only the second Cougar to compete in that elite event.
She also was selected to compete for Team International during the Arnold Palmer Cup at Rich Harvest Farms in June.
