SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – University of Houston sophomore Karen Fredgaard completed play at the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club on Monday afternoon.
Fredgaard posted a score of 74 in Monday's Final Round on the 6,384-yard, par-72 course and tied for 28th with her four-day total of 292. She became the first Cougar in program history to compete in the Final Round of the NCAA Championships and was only the second Cougar to play in the nation's top collegiate event.
Starting her day off No. 1, the Asserbo, Denmark, native made birdie on the 392-yard, par-4 third hole but suffered a bogey at No 4. After a bogey on the par-4 sixth hole, Fredgaard quickly moved back to even-par with a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole.
She drained three straight pars before enduring a double-bogey 7 on No. 11 and ended her NCAA Championships run with seven straight pars.
On Saturday, Fredgaard posted a 2-under 70 in the Second Round to set a Houston NCAA Championships record for low round.
Stanford's No. 2 Rachel Heck captured the NCAA individual national championship with a score of 8-under 280 to finish one stroke ahead of UCLA's Emma Spitz. Stanford's Angelina Ye finished third at 282, while Arizona State's Ashley Menne finished fourth at 285.
No. 6 Stanford won the stroke-play team championship at 1,142 to finish 13 shots ahead of No. 2 Duke. Both teams move on to match play for the NCAA team national championship, joining No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 5 Mississippi, No. 17 Texas, No. 15 Auburn, No. 10 Arizona State and No. 22 Arizona.
Fredgaard earned her inaugural trip to the NCAA Championships as one of the nation's Top-10 players. Although the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional was canceled without a shot being played due to unplayable conditions from wet weather, Fredgaard's No. 7 ranking made her one of three student-athletes not from a qualifying team to advance to the NCAA Championships.
