Three Cougars selected in 2021 NFL Draft
HOUSTON – Houston wide receiver Marquez Stevenson and linebacker Grant Stuard were selected on the final day of the 2021 NFL Draft Saturday.
Stevenson was selected in the sixth round by the Buffalo Bills as 203rd overall pick. Stuard was drafted with the last pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, going as the 259th overall selection to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Stevenson was selected as the 19th pick in the sixth round in the 2021 NFL Draft. A native of Shreveport, La., Stevenson is the first UH wide receiver to be selected in the NFL Draft since Demarcus Ayers in 2016 (Pittsburgh Steelers, seventh round).
Stevenson joins former teammate Ed Oliver in Buffalo. He is the seventh Cougar to be selected by the Bills in program history.
Stuard is the first Cougar to be selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since David Bennett in 1982 and just the third all-time. As the last pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Stuard was given the title as "Mr. Irrelevant".
The Conroe, Texas, native is the first Houston linebacker selected in the NFL Draft since Emeke Egbule (Los Angeles Chargers) in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Stevenson and Stuard joined defensive lineman Payton Turner as the latest Cougars to be drafted. Turner was selected as the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints on Thursday.
This marks the fourth time in the last six years that Houston has had multiple picks in the NFL Draft. The Cougars have had at least one NFL Draft selection in each of the last six years.
