The Cougars finished Monday's Second Round at 281, one stroke behind their score from Sunday's opening play. Houston enjoyed the low round of the day, besting Virginia by six shots on the 6,349-yard, par-72 course at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Wake Forest stood in second, four strokes behind the Cougars, while Virginia was third at 572. Kent State (574), Miami (Fla.) (575), Arkansas (575) Kentucky (577), Iowa State (584), UCF (584) and Kennesaw State (585) rounded out the Top 10 leaders.
Individually, sophomore Karen Fredgaard fired a 67 in the Second Round to move into a tie for first at 7-under 137. Starting off No. 1, Fredgaard birdied four of her first seven holes with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 2-3.
On her back nine, the Asserbo, Denmark, native made birdie on No. 11 and enjoyed consecutive birdies on No. 13-14. She was joined atop the individual leaderboard by Wake Forest's Lauren Walsh.
Sophomore Annie Kim stood in fourth at 5-under 139. The Seoul native birdied her first two holes and added three birdies on her back nine, including two in a 3-hole stretch at Nos. 12-14.
Making her collegiate debut this week, freshman Annie Norman finished with a 70 on Monday and moved into a tie for 12th at 143. The Rungsted, Denmark, native stood 6-under through 16 holes, thanks to seven birdies and only one bogey, before battling through a tough finish.
Senior Ariana Saenz was tied for 24th at 145, while freshman Zoe Slaughter – also making her collegiate debut this week – was tied for 53rd at 149.

PAIRINGS
The three-day, 54-hole tournament wraps up with the Final Round on Tuesday morning.

UP NEXT
Following the UCF Challenge, the Cougars open the month of February at the Texas State Invitational on Feb. 8-9 at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle, Texas.
From there, Houston will play host to its own ICON Invitational on Feb. 22-23 at Golf Club of Houston. The Cougars welcome an elite field, including Baylor, Kent State, LSU, Michigan State, North Texas, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Purdue, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State and Texas Tech.
