Houston Unveils 2021 Spring Schedule

Cougars to compete in eight regular-season tournaments, starting Jan. 31 at UCF Challenge
HOUSTON – For the first time since March 2020, the University of Houston Women's Golf program returns to action when it opens its 2021 schedule in late January, Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell announced Wednesday.
Chadwell returns four letterwinners from the 2019-20 squad, which captured the 2019 Mason Rudolph Championship title in Franklin, Tenn., to begin the fall season a year ago.
Sophomore Karen Fredgaard led the way with a 71.33 scoring average and 12 rounds of par or better and finished second at the White Sands Invitational in the Bahamas in October 2019.
Junior Maria Jose Martinez posted a 73.00 scoring average with four rounds of par or better and tied for second at the Mason Rudolph Championship for her season best finish.
THE SCHEDULE
The Cougars will compete in eight regular-season events before beginning postseason play at the American Athletic Conference Championships.
The season begins Jan. 31-Feb. 2 when Houston competes at the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando.
From there, the Cougars will play two tournaments in February, starting with the Texas State Invitational on Feb. 8-9 at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle, Texas.
The Cougars then play host to their own ICON Invitational on Feb. 22-23 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas. Houston welcomes an elite field to their 54-hole event, including Baylor, Kent State, LSU, Michigan State, North Texas, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Purdue, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State and Texas Tech.
March will be a busy month for Houston with three tournaments. The Cougars will compete at the Clover Cup on March 12-14 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., before teeing off at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve in Saddlebrooke, Ariz., on March 19-21.
The team closes out the month at The Bruzzy Challenge on March 28-29 at Lantana Golf Club in Dallas.
The Cougars will compete at the Silverado Showdown on April 5-7 at Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif., before closing the regular season on April 12-13 at the Houston Oaks Invitational at Houston Oaks Golf Club in Hockley, Texas.
THE POSTSEASON
Winners of three of the last four American Athletic Championships, Houston begins postseason action when it tees off at The American Championships on April 18-20 on Pinehurst No. 6 at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C. It will be the first time the league's annual postseason event has been played at this venue.
The winner of the league's annual tournament will receive a bid to the NCAA Regional. NCAA Regional play begins May 10-12 at one of four sites across the nation: University Golf Club (Baton Rouge, La. / LSU); Scarlet Course – OSU Golf Club (Columbus, Ohio / Ohio State), University of Louisville Golf Club (Louisville, Ky. / Louisville) and Stanford Golf Course (Stanford, Calif. / Stanford).
Houston has competed at each of the last five NCAA Regionals that have been played, or every season in which the Cougars were eligible to compete as a team during the program's young history.
The top teams from each NCAA Regional advance to the NCAA Championships, slated for May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
