HOUSTON – The University of Houston Athletics Department will host two inclusion forums in August. Each workshop is focused on gaining insight and practical takeaways on how to successfully lead from a position with inclusive excellence.
UH is partnering with neighboring universities including Rice, Houston Baptist, Texas Southern and St. Thomas University to provide these two opportunities to coaches, student-athletes, support staff and administrators.
The NCAA's Director of Inclusion Niya Blair-Hackworth will moderate both sessions.
Student-athletes from each institution will participate in the first forum scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 12. A forum for coaches and staff will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
The forums will discuss cultural knowledge and self-awareness, along with understanding of personal identifies and identities of others. Participants will also work through how to create safe spaces for black and LGBTQ student-athletes as well as how coaches and staff can be allies.
In June, UH announced its the development of "Coogs' All-In", the department's diversity and inclusion council.
