Ruiz Named American Field Athlete of the Week

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field junior pole vaulter Antonio Ruiz earns the teams ninth weekly honor of the season after being tabbed The American Field Athlete of the Week.

Ruiz continues to have stellar season at Houston, earning his first weekly honor as a Cougar. The junior cleared 5.50m (18-00.50) to take first-place in the pole vault at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational this past weekend. The mark bested the previous program record set by Ruiz at the Charlie Thomas Invitational and was just shy of his collegiate-best in the event.

The junior enters the week with the tenth-best mark this season among collegians and the best mark in The American.
