"We saw a lot of great things today. I'm very excited to see two more Olympic Trial qualifying times from Mykenzie Leehy and Peyton Kondis, and a Greek National Record for Ioanna Sacha. Laura Laderoute setting a school record in the 100 Back was a great way to end the day. Across the board the things we saw were very encouraging for next week at The American Championships here in our home pool," said Head Coach Ryan Wochomurka.
In the opening race of the day, Sacha got things going for Houston with a Greek National Record setting performance. Sacha finished the event with a time of 2:12.84, breaking an 11-year-old national record.
Kondis continues to have a stellar senior season at Houston, earning the second United States Olympic Trials qualifying time of her career. The senior clocked a time of 2:32.14 in the 200 LCM Breastroke, after not competing in the event at last year's First Chance Meet. Kondis also holds an Olympic Trial cut in the 100 LCM Breaststroke.
In the 50 LCM Freestyle, Leehy touched at 25.75 for her second Olympic Trial qualifying time after posting a qualifying time of 56.02 in the 100 LCM Freestyle at last seasons First Chance meet. Leehy continued to have a stellar day in the short-course meters section of the meet, posting an NCAA B-Cut time of 48.97 in the 100y Freestyle for first-place in the event.
Already the program record holder in the event, Laderoute swam a blazing fast 52.47 in the 100-yard Backstroke to shatter the previous program-best in the event and take first-place.
