Cougar signees appear in MileSplit Rankings
HOUSTON – The University of Houston's Track & Field program doesn't call itself "Speed City" for no reason, with four of its newest recruits ranking as some of the best sprinters and hurdlers in the nation, according to MileSplit.
Â
For the boys, Aaron Bell joins UH as the nation's top-ranked sprinter in the 60-meter, clocking two of the best times of his young career at the 2020 Carl Lewis Invitational. Bell ran a time of 6.72 in the 60-meter and 21.53 in the 200-meter at the event and is ranked 14th-overall in the class of 2021 rankings.
Â
After running the fastest 400-meter hurdles time among high school athletes in the country earlier this year, it is apparent that Mario Paul gets it done in the short hurdles as well. He is ranked 82nd in the 55-meter hurdles (7.90) and 51st in the 60-meter hurdles (8.34).
Â
In the girls' rankings, Raven Nunnery sits at 9th in the 60-meter (7.51). Nunnery holds the state record for the fastest indoor 200-meter time in Louisiana and ran a blazing fast 24.18 in the 200-meter at the Carl Lewis Invitational to come in 8th in the rankings.
Â
Destiny Smith joins Nunnery in the high school girls' rankings, coming in at 25th in the 60-meter hurdles (8.83).
Â
These additions to the program bring an undoubted sense of excitement, as the squads prepare for the upcoming season.
