HOUSTON – More than 200 University of Houston student-athletes were recognized for their academic achievements during the 2018-19 season with the release of the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team on Thursday.
Among Houston's sport programs, Women's Track & Field led with 35 honorees, while Swimming & Diving followed with 31. Baseball rounded out Houston's top three and ranked as the highest men's program with 23 selections as part of the 214 in total.
This marked the second straight season that Houston saw 200+ student-athletes named to the academic squad. A year ago, the Cougars saw 202 student-athletes earn the honor.
This was the third straight year Houston's honorees total increased from the previous season.
To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have competed in an American Athletic Conference-sponsored sport, earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters.
In 2018-19, 27 percent of Houston's student-athletes (110) earned Dean's List honors for their spring semester work, while nearly 70 Cougars received their bachelor's degrees.
