Houston Celebrates Spring 2019 Academics

More than 100 Cougars earned Dean’s List Honors following the spring semester
HOUSTON – With the end of the school year, University of Houston Athletics enjoyed record-setting performances in competition and in the classroom.
In 2018-19, more than 400 student-athletes in 17 sport programs posted a cumulative GPA of 2.94, setting a school record for the second time in the last three seasons, while nearly 70 student-athletes received their bachelor's degrees.
Twenty-seven percent of Houston's student-athletes (110) earned Dean's List honors for their spring semester academic work.
Swimming & Diving (3.50), Softball (3.46) and Soccer (3.41) set program records for highest cumulative GPA following the spring semester, while Swimming and Diving (3.54) and Soccer (3.47) set records in their respective programs with their spring GPAs.
Under the leadership of American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Ryan Wochomurka, Swimming and Diving captured the league title for the third straight season, while Softball advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Austin Regional.
Those teams were part of 10 sport programs, which posted 3.0 or higher cumulative GPAs following the spring semester. Cross Country led all men's programs with a 3.39 cumulative GPA and was joined in the 3.0 Club by Baseball, Tennis, Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field, Volleyball and Women's Cross Country.
Katelyn Bub (Soccer), Emma Clarke (Soccer), Jenny Penneck (Swimming & Diving), Rebecca Brandt (Swimming & Diving), Rachel Hicks (Swimming & Diving) and Meredith Sorensen (Women's Track & Field) recorded perfect GPAs in 2018-19 with 4.0 marks in each of the fall and spring semesters.
Nineteen student-athletes recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs in the spring. That group included: Bub, Clarke, Penneck, Brandt, Hicks, Sorensen, Blake Way (Baseball), Jordan Gochenour (Baseball), Hunter Edwards (Baseball), Jordan Milburn (Football), Payton Haslam (Football), Kelsey Thein (Soccer), Lauren Holtzclaw (Soccer), Reese Lamph (Swimming & Diving), Morgan Rosas (Swimming & Diving), Shayla Erickson (Swimming & Diving), Ebony White (Women's Track & Field), McKenzie Chapa (Women's Track & Field) and Luke Barksdale (Men's Track & Field).
