Houston Welcomes Four on National Signing Day

Delaney Martin (TMI Episcopal), Molly Murray (Boyd HS), Anne Norman (Rungsted Gymnasium) and Zoe Slaughter sign National Letters of Intent
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Golf program and Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell recently welcomed four newcomers to the team after signing National Letters of Intent during National Signing Day.
Delaney Martin (TMI Episcopal, San Antonio, Texas), Molly Murray (Boyd HS [McKinney, Texas], Middletown, Del.), Anne Normann (Rungsted, Denmark) and Zoe Slaughter (Memorial Senior HS, Houston) will compete as freshmen at Houston beginning in 2020-21 and have four years of eligibility remaining.
DELANEY MARTIN
5-10 • Freshman-HS
Boerne, Texas-TMI Episcopal
Martin joins the Cougars after an award-winning career at TMI Episcopal in San Antonio, Texas. In three years, she led her teams to five district, regional and state championships, while she earned two district individual titles, two regional individual crowns and the 2019 state championship.
"With Delaney's steady improvement over the past few years, she has become a highly touted recruit in the state of Texas. She had a great summer last year and comes from great instruction with Cliff Bounds from San Antonio," Chadwell said. "I am looking forward to being a part of the process in her climb through golf."
As a junior in 2019 for Head Coach Clive Hamilton, Martin finished with a scoring average of 69.6 to lead the Panthers to district and state championship titles. She earned in the individual title after posting a record 64 in a round and finished as the district, regional and state individual champion.
Her team earned district and regional titles while she finished as the district and regional medalist in 2018. Martin also earned All-State honors for the second straight season.
As a freshman in 2017, Martin was an All-State and All-District performer and captured the regional individual title while leading the Panthers to the regional team championship.
MOLLY MURRAY
5-9 • Freshman-HS
Middletown, Del.-Boyd HS [McKinney, Texas)
Murray has been an award-winning performer in her first three years at Boyd High School in McKinney, Texas.
A three-year letterwinner for Head Coach Denise Hachtel, Murray helped lead the Broncos to three straight appearances in the Regionals and back-to-back berths in the State Championships in 2018 and 2019.
She was an All-District performer as a junior in 2018 and elected team captain as a junior in 2019.
"Molly comes from a strong high school, which has produced a lot of outstanding players, and she has steadily improved each year," Chadwell said. "Molly is a hard worker and will be a great contributor for four years for us."
Murray earned several wins on the North Texas PGA circuit with multiple Top-5 finishes at TJGH. She also earned medalist honors at the 2018 Hurricane Golf Tour at Watters Creek.
Off the course, Murray was a two-time All-Academics First Team selection in 2018 and 2019
ANNE NORMANN
5-11 • Freshman-HS
Rungsted, Denmark
Normann became the second Danish student-athlete to sign with the Cougars in the program's history, joining current freshman Karen Fredgaard.
Normann was selected for the Danish National Girls' Team in 2018 and 2019 and will compete for the Danish National Team in 2020.
In the summer of 2019, she competed for Europe on the prestigious
"Anne is a world-class player and a game-changing recruit for us. She has had a killer run during the last three years and comes from a great national team," Chadwell said. "Anne will be a great fit for our program and will continue to play high level golf around the world."
The Rungsted, Denmark, native finished second at the 2019 Annika Invitational after finishing with a score of 208, thanks to consecutive 68s in the final two rounds.
Normann was a member of the winning Danish team that captured the 2019 European Girls' Team Championship and tied for third in individual stroke play at 3-under 141 with a 68 in the Final Round.
She finished second at the 2019 Danish Stroke Play Championship with a score of 2-under 211, including a 69 in the opening, and tied for 11th at the 2019 World Junior Girls Championship with a score of 290.
ZOE SLAUGHTER
5-7 • Freshman-HS
Houston, Texas-Memorial Senior HS
Slaughter been an award-winning performer for Head Coach Holly Paulk at Memorial High School in Houston.
In 2019, she was recognized as the UIL 5A & 6A Player of the Year and finished second at the Class 6A State Championships with a score of 3-under 141 at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown, Texas.
Slaughter also earned medalist honors at the District Championships.
In March, she set the junior record at University of Texas Golf Club with a 65 in the Final Round of the Sergio and Angela Garcia Foundation Junior Championship.
"Zoe is the best player in the state and provides great stability for us going forward. She had a great summer and continues her upward trajectory. I am happy to have her stay home in the city of Houston."
As a junior in 2018, she was named the Legends Junior Tour Player of the Year and captured the 2016 Houston City Junior Match Play championship.
Away from competition, Slaughter as a volunteer for Star of Hope Mission and the Houston Food Bank. She also received the TransAmerica/AJGA Scholastic Award for her work in the classroom.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will take a break from action before opening the spring season at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans on Feb. 16-18, 2020.
From there, Houston plays host to the ICON Invitational on Feb. 24-25 on the Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club on Feb. 24-25.
