Tuesday's honor was the second straight for Scaife who continued an impressive start to the indoor season, breaking her own school record in the weight throw for a third consecutive week to claim the event. She left no doubt, obliterating her old record of 68-8.00 (20.93m), when she marked 74-3.75 (22.65m) on her final attempt of the competition.
Scaife also broke the Houston Invitational meet record and the Yeoman Fieldhouse facility record with the effort. The mark moves her to No. 2 in the NCAA this season.

Montgomery's winning time of 46.28 in the 400-meter dash snapped a 14-year old facility record of 46.77 set by 2008 400-meter Olympic gold medalist LaShawn Merritt. The time is the sixth fastest in the nation this season and the best in The American Athletic Conference for the 2018 NCAA champion in the outdoor version of the event.
Houston has claimed seven Athlete of the Week honors from The American through the first four weeks of the season. Obi Igbokwe and Lagarious McQuirter swept the men's track and field honors a week ago, while Naomi Taylor grabbed the women's track honor following the opening weekend. Last week Scaife earned the women's field honor while Mario Burke claimed the men's track honor.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
Houston heads northwest to College Station, Texas, for the Charlie Thomas Invitational on Feb. 1-2.
