
Sorensen Runs Top-10 at Texas A&M Invitational

Cougar women finish sixth, men 10th in College Station
HOUSTON – Junior distance runner Meredith Sorensen picked up a top-10 finish at the Texas A&M Invitational, while the women's team finished sixth and the men finished 10th, on Saturday in College Station, Texas.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The men were on the track first for an 8,000-meter race around Watts Cross County Course. The Cougar's top finisher was freshman Gabe Armijo who crossed the line in 25:17.2 to place 20th and pick up his third top-20 finish of the season.
Houston's top finisher at the Rice Invitational, Devin Fahey, crossed the line second, placing 42nd in 26:03.7, while Cameron Laverty crossed right behind in 26:24.7 to finish 56th. Freshman Jemal Wote made his collegiate debut with a 61st-place finish in 26:34.6, while Nicholas Fernandes rounded out the scoring in 70th at 26:43.2.
Houston's men scored 222 points to finish 10th overall.
The women would follow on the course, where Sorensen picked up her top-10 finish in the women's 6,000-meter race. Sorensen crossed the line first for the Cougars for the second-consecutive meet, placing 10th in 22:18.5.
Jennifer Dunlap and Jahnavi Schneider were the next Cougars to cross the line, finishing right on each other's heels in 27th and 28th, respectively. Dunlap ran through the chute in 23:02.0, while Schneider crossed in 23:02.3. A pair of freshmen rounded out the scoring for Houston, with Regan Lobodzinski taking 41st in 23:23.2, while Maddy Castleberry ran 24:07.3 to place 64th.
Houston's women scored 156 points to finish sixth overall.
