AUSTIN, Texas â€" The 25th-ranked University of Houston Women's Golf program opens the NCAA postseason when it tees off Monday morning at the NCAA Austin Regional at the University of Texas Golf Club.
The Cougars, who will compete as the No. 7 seed, earned their trip to NCAA Regional play for the fourth consecutive season after winning the American Athletic Conference Championships for the second time in the last three seasons on April 15-17 at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club.
Houston is one of only 28 teams to compete in each of the last four NCAA Regionals… but the Cougars have accomplished that feat in their first four years of existence. Under the leadership of Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell, the program began in 2013-14 with four student-athletes competing as individuals with team competition beginning in 2014-15, per NCAA rules.
The Cougars will face No. 1 seed Arkansas, No. 2 seed Texas, No. 3 seed Michigan State, No. 4 seed Florida, No. 5 seed Auburn, No. 6 seed Oklahoma, No. 8 seed Miami (Fla.), No. 9 seed Baylor, No. 10 seed Texas A&M, No. 11 seed BYU, No. 12 seed ECU, No, 13 seed Texas Tech, No. 14 seed Virginia Tech, No. 15 seed UTSA, No. 16 seed Georgetown, No. 17 seed Houston Baptist and No. 18 seed Missouri State on the 6,341-yard, par-72 layout at UT Golf Club.
Brigitte Dunne (SMU); Xiaolin Tian (Maryland); Greta Bruner (TCU); Katrina Prendergast (Colorado State); Ellen Secor (Colorado State) and Faith Summers (SMU) were selected to compete as individuals as the NCAA Austin Regional.
Tuesday's Second Round and Wednesday's Final Round begin with split-tee starts at 8 a.m., each day. Houston's exact tee times will be determined based on their place in the team standings following the prior round.
The Top-6 teams and Top-3 individuals not on a qualifying team from each NCAA Regional advance to the NCAA Championships, set for Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., on May 18-23. Houston is looking for its first team appearance at the NCAA Championships.
The Cougars were one of 72 teams with 24 individuals selected to compete in four NCAA Regionals across the nation. Other NCAA Regional sites include: Don Veller Seminole Golf Course & Club (Tallahassee, Fla.); University Ridge Golf Course (Madison, Wis.) and TPC Harding Park (San Francisco).
STARTING LINEUP
The Cougars will be represented by junior Leonie Harm, seniors Megan Thothong, Allie Andersen and Courtney Tibiletti and sophomore Amanda Elich.
Thothong will become the first student-athlete in program history to compete in four NCAA Regionals during her career, while Harm will appear in her third NCAA Regional. Andersen and Tibiletti will play in their second straight Regionals with Elich making her NCAA postseason debut.
FIRST-ROUND PAIRINGS
For Monday's First Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Miami (Fla.) and Baylor.
Elich will start the day for the Cougars at 8:50 a.m., off No. 1, with Tibiletti (9 a.m.), Andersen (9:10 a.m.), Thothong (9:20 a.m.) and Harm (9:30 a.m.) following.
