BRYAN, Texas -- University of Houston senior Michael Perras posted a 73 in the Final Round and closed out his collegiate career with a 24th-place finish at the NCAA Bryan Regional at Traditions Club on Wednesday afternoon.
Perras, who was one of 10 individuals to compete at the NCAA Bryan Regional, finished with a three-day, 54-hole score of 218 on the 7,121-yard course.
The Deer Park, Texas, native ended his career among the Cougars' top-10 career leaders in strokes (10,675), stroke average (72.13) and rounds (148).
Perras battled through six pars and a pair of bogeys through his first eight holes before draining a birdie on the par-4 ninth hole.
Following a bogey on No. 10 and consecutive pars, Perras drained another birdie on the 407-yard 14th hole and rallied from a bogey on No. 16 with a birdie on the par-4 17th hole.
Host and second-ranked Texas A&M captured the team title with a score of 837 after posting a team round of 279 for the third straight day. No. 14 Clemson (846), No. 11 Baylor (857) No. 26 UCLA (866) and No. 23 Kentucky (874) finished among the Top-5 leaders and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
No. 34 Mississippi (877), No. 38 South Carolina (882), Mississippi State (885), UNCW (886) and Northern Colorado (904) rounded out the Top-10 teams.
Eighth-ranked Chandler Phillips earned medalist honors with a score of 11-under 205 after posting a 69 Wednesday, his third straight round in the 60s. Doc Redman (Clemson) and Brandon Smith (Texas A&M) tied for second at 206, while Braden Thornberry (Mississippi) finished fourth at 207.
McNeese's Blake Elliott was the leading individual not on a qualifying team with a score of 208, tying with Clemson's Bryson Nimmer.
NCAA REGIONALS HISTORY
The Cougars have enjoyed a rich history in NCAA Regional play. This marks the seventh straight season in which Houston has been represented in the NCAA postseason.
During its history, the Cougars have recorded one NCAA Regional team title, four NCAA Regional individual championships (including Perras, who won the 2016 NCAA Franklin Regional) with 20 total team appearances.
Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars enjoyed six straight appearances as a team in NCAA Regionals from 2012 to 2017.
Perras becomes the fourth Cougar to compete as individual, joining Jordan Irwin (2007 NCAA Central), Zach Mowbray (2004 NCAA); Brett Callas (2003 NCAA Central medalist) and Lance Combrink (1996 NCAA Central).
