BRYAN, Texas â€" The University of Houston Men's Golf team stood in fifth place midway through the Aggie Invitational Second Round on Saturday evening before play was suspended due to darkness.
After posting a team score of 301 in the morning round, the Cougars were at 8-over in the afternoon session with all student-athletes completing at least 12 holes in the Second Round.
The Second Round resumes at 8 a.m., Sunday on the 7,146-yard, par-72 course with the Final Round to begin shortly after its completion.
Senior Michael Perras and junior Matt Williams were tied for fifth at +1 before stopping Second-Round play to lead the Cougars.
Perras drained six birdies in his First Round Saturday, including four on his first nine, on the way to a 2-under 70 to post the Cougars' low round of the day. The defending American Athletic Conference Championships medalist was at +3 in his Second Round.
Williams overcame tough starts in each of his two rounds to join Perras among the Top-5 leaders. Starting at No. 10, the Calgary, Alberta, native stood at +3 through his first three holes in the first round, but drained three birdies on the final six holes of his first nine.
Williams endured only one bogey on his second nine and used a birdie on the 584-yard, par-5 eight hole to return to even par in the First Round.
He started at +3 through his first 12 holes in the afternoon session but took advantage of back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4-5 to stand at +1 before play was halted.
No. 8 Alabama stood atop the team leaderboard at +6, while No. 31 Kent State was in second at +15. No. 1 Oklahoma State (+16), No. 2 Texas A&M (+18) and No. 12 LSU (+19) completed the Top-5 leaders with Michigan (+22), North Texas (+32), No. 16 Arkansas (+32) and No. 10 Baylor (+34) rounding out the Top-10
Texas A&M's Walker Lee held the first-day lead at 6-under 138, while No, 35 Ian Holt of Kent State stood in second at 142. No. 15 Chandler Phillips was in third at -1 with No. 22 Lee Hodges (Alabama) in fourth at E.
Sophomore Zach Tracy was tied for 37th at +9, while sophomore George Gardner was tied for 50th at +12. Freshman Alexander Frances stood in 68th at +18.
Competing as individuals, sophomore Pryce Beshoory was tied for 53rd at 157, while senior Papito Gonzalez was tied for 69th at +19.

FINAL-ROUND PAIRINGS
The Second Round resumes at 8 a.m., Sunday, with the Final Round to begin shortly after its completion. For the Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Michigan and North Texas.
UP NEXT
Following the Aggie Invitational, the Cougars takes their first step into the postseason when they tees off at the American Athletic Conference Championships on April 22-24 on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla.
Perras looks to defend his American Athletic Conference Championships individual title from a year ago. With that championship, he became the first Cougar in program history to win NCAA Regional and conference championships titles during his career.
