At Rice on Tuesday, Houston fell 4-3 in the first game of the Silver Glove Series … At Cincinnati, Thursday's series opener was postponed due to weather … The Cougars split a Friday doubleheader, winning 4-2 and falling 2-1, before falling 4-2 in the series finale on Saturday … Junior ace Trey Cumbie tossed eight innings, scattering four hits and two runs with one walk and 10 strikeouts on Friday to be named to The American Weekly Honor Roll … Houston fans will have the opportunity to spend a full day on campus Saturday, April 7, as the Houston Department of Athletics hosts three events, beginning with Track & Field's Houston Alumni Invitational featuring a top-3 national showdown followed by Football's Red & White game and ending with Baseball's American Conference showdown vs. USF.

Coming off one of the program's best seasons in decades, Houston Men's Basketball fans can begin preparing for the 2018-19 season when the Cougars compete in the $60-million Fertitta Center for the first time with the announcement of season-ticket pricing … Fans now have the opportunity to take their first steps toward the 2018-19 season by placing a $30 deposit on 2018-19 season tickets at UHCougars.com/mbbdeposit or by calling 713-462-6647 … For the seating map and more info, click here … Houston legend Otis Birdsong will become one of the newest members of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame when he is formally enshrined in November … Birdsong was announced Wednesday morning as part of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame's 2018 class, which features six former standout players and a pair of decorated former coaches … He joins Arkansas' Sidney Moncrief, Arizona's Sean Elliott, North Carolina's Sam Perkins, Morgan State's Marvin Webster, USC's Paul Westphal, former Charleston Coach John Kresse and former Oregon Tech Coach Danny Miles … From 1973 to 1977, Birdsong was one of the nation's elite college basketball stars. He amassed 2,832 points during his career, a total which ranks second in Houston history and continues to rank 15th in NCAA history. The Winter Haven, Fla., native continues to rank third in Houston history in steals and eighth in assists and became the first player in school history to top the 1,000-Point milestone as a sophomore.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team mourns the loss of former Head Coach Dot Woodfin … Woodfin became the women's second head coach in program history in 1976 and coached the Cougars for nine seasons … In her time at Houston, Woodfin posted a 175-104 record and won 20 games in four of her nine seasons with the Cougars … Woodfin helped the Houston women transition into Southwest Conference play, where she posted a 25-15 record in the league in three seasons … Woodfin also helped transition the Cougars from AIAW to NCAA play, and led the Cougars to five appearances in the AIAW State tournament and four AIAW regional berths in her first five seasons … For info on Woodfin's memorial service, click .

Houston fans will have the opportunity to spend a full day on campus Saturday, April 7, as the Houston Department of Athletics hosts three events, beginning with Track & Field's Houston Alumni Invitational featuring a top-3 national showdown followed by Football's Red & White game and ending with Baseball's American Conference showdown vs. USF … Fans making their way to campus on April 7 will also have the opportunity to check out the Houston Football Indoor Practice Facility with a postgame autograph session inside the facility following the Red & White Game … The 2018 Major Applewhite Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, June 18, at the Wildcat Golf Club … The event, which benefits the Houston Football restricted fund, is set for a 12 p.m. shotgun start with registration and lunch opening at 10:30 a.m. … For more information, click here.

Since the 2007 season, Houston has hosted a Striking Out Breast Cancer game to raise funds and awareness … A silent auction will be held during the game, closing in the middle of the fourth inning, with all proceeds going to Susan G. Komen and breast cancer research … After falling 3-0 and 7-2 in their first two games vs. UCF, the Cougars closed the series with a 4-0 shutout on Saturday … Junior Savannah Heebner improved to 14-4 behind her seventh shutout of the season and 16th overall of her career … Sophomore second baseman Arielle James led the way at the plate going 4-for-8 across the series … For their efforts, both Heebner and James were named to The American Weekly Honor Roll … In the series finale, sophomores third baseman Sarah Queen, James and first baseman Kelli Montgomery combined for three 5-4-3 double plays. The three double plays turned ties the program record for the most in a single game, a mark previously achieved three times and last against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 20, 2015, at Cougar Softball Stadium.

After sweeping the doubles point, Sveva Mazzari, Lauren Alter, Alison Mills and Ana Glumac all picked up victories … With the win, the Cougars improved to 12-0 at home, continuing their best start on their home court since 2006 … The Cougars also celebrated Senior Day on Friday, in which they honored the careers of Glumac, Mazzari, and Mills.
TRACK & FIELD
Last Week
Houston Track & Field continued its outdoor season with its participation in the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. In total, the Cougars posted seven wins and nine overall podium finishes.

At the Texas Relays, senior sprinter Cameron Burrell won the 100-meter invitational in 10.01 … Senior sprinter Eli Hall won the 200-meter invitational in 20.11, a mark which is No. 1 in the nation and set both the facility and meet records … The Houston men won the 4x100-meter relay in 38.92, a mark which is No. 3 in the nation and makes the Cougars the only program in the NCAA with two squads listed among the top-5 fastest times in the nation … The men also won the 4x200-meter relay, winning in 1:21.20 … Nora Monie won the 'B' section of the shot put with a throw of 50-0.75 (15.26m), which improves on her already No. 2 mark in school history … Monie also won the 'B' section of the discuss with a heave of 170-4 (51.91m), also No. 2 in program history … Taylor Scaife threw 195-6 (59.60m) to break the school record in the hammer throw … At the conclusion of the meet, the Houston men were named the Texas Relays Team of the Meet and Hall was named the Male Track Athlete of the Meet … Houston fans will have the opportunity to spend a full day on campus Saturday, April 7, as the Houston Department of Athletics hosts three events, beginning with Track & Field's Houston Alumni Invitational featuring a top-3 national showdown followed by Football's Red & White game and ending with Baseball's American Conference showdown vs. USF.
