PALM CITY, Fla. â€" University of Houston senior Michael Perras fired a 3-under 68 in the Second Round of the Valspar Collegiate Invitational on Monday to move into a tie for 19th.
Perras, who was the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships medalist, enjoyed a bogey-free round on the 7,114-yard, par-72 course at Floridian National Golf Club. The Deer Park, Texas, native birdied his second hole of the day on the par-5 15th hole and added another birdie on the par-5 fifth hole.
He closed out his round with his final birdie on the par-5 13th hole to lead the Cougars.
Sophomore George Gardner birdied his first two holes of the day and finished with four birdies in his Second Round on the way to a 1-under 70. The Southlake, Texas, native was tied for 53rd at 147.
As a team, the Cougars enjoyed a score of 1-under-283 in the Second Round to finish at 579 and move up three places in the team standings.
No. 1 Oklahoma State held the team lead at 17-under-551 with No. 9 Baylor in second at 563. No. 23 Florida State (564), No. 2 Texas A&M (564), No. 12 LSU (566), No. 37 Duke (568), No. 3 Georgia Tech (569), No. 20 USF (569), No. 14 Texas (572) and No. 28 Pepperdine (578) rounded out the Top-10.
Oklahoma State's Viktor Hovland posted a 65 in the Second Round to continue to hold the individual lead at 10-under-132. Baylor's Matthew Perrine was in second at 134, while Alex Smalley (Duke), Scottie Scheffler (Texas) and Dan Erickson (Texas A&M) were tied for third at 136.
Competing as an individual, freshman Alexander Frances enjoyed five birdies in Monday's play and was tied for 59th at 147, joining teammate sophomore Pryce Beshoory.
Junior Matt Williams was tied for 31st at 144, while sophomore Zach Tracy was tied for 45th at 146. Senior Papito Gonzalez was tied for 67th at 151 with junior Carson Cavner in 85th at 159.

FINAL ROUND on TUESDAY
The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes beginning with a 7:30 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start Tuesday. The Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Pepperdine and Arkansas.
Perras will begin in the first group off No. 10 with Tracy (first group off No. 11), Williams (second group off No 11), Gardner (No. 12) and Gonzalez (second group off No. 13) following.
Beshoory will be in the first group off No. 17 with Frances (second group off No. 17) and Cavner (first group off No. 18) following.
UP NEXT
Following the Valspar Collegiate Championships, the Cougars will travel to compete at the 3M Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., on April 1-2.
From there, Houston will send student-athletes to compete as individuals at the Golden Nugget Invitational in Lake Charles, La., on March 26-27.
Houston will return to team competition in its regular-season finale at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, on April 7-8.
