Cougars’ 4x1, 4x2 squads post nation’s top times
HOUSTON – The accolades continue to roll in for the 2018 Houston Cougar Men's Track & Field team as the squad earned two Accusplit Relay Awards, the USTFCCCA announced Thursday.
Â
The USTFCCCA Accusplit Relay Awards are granted to the team whose squad runs the fastest time in its respective event during the outdoor season. Houston earned the award for each of the men's 4x100- and 4x200-meter relay teams.
Â
For the second-consecutive season, the Cougars took home the NCAA Championship in the 4x100-meter relay. The 2018 team of John Lewis III, Elijah Hall, Mario Burke and Cameron Burrell shattered the NCAA record when they passed the baton one lap around the track in 38.17.

Â
Houston set the nation's fastest 4x200-meter relay time at the Prairie View A&M Relays. In the 800-meter relay, Burke, Burrell, Hall and Kahmari Montgomery defeated Team USA Red (Marquez Washington, Mike Rogers, Bryce Robinson and Dedrick Dukes) and Team USA Blue (Jeff Demps, Wallace Spearmon, Charles Silmon and Blake Smith) in a time of 1:21.19 to earn gold.

Â
The 2018 Houston men's team would go on to finish third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, matching the highest ranking for the squad in program history.
