HOUSTON â€" One week after three Houston programs were honored with NCAA Public Recognition Awards, the NCAA released its annual Academic Progress Rate data for member institutions Wednesday.

Nine of the 17 programs scored higher than the NCAA average in their respective sports, while three programs ranked first in The American - Men's Cross Country, Women's Golf and Women's Cross Country. Men's Golf and Men's Track & Field ranked second in The American.
In all, 15 of Houston's 17 sport programs were at least 30 points above the NCAA's required minimum score of 930 while seven programs were above 990 â€" Men's Cross Country, Women's Golf, Women's Cross Country, Softball, Men's Golf, Swimming & Diving and Tennis.
Houston Women's Basketball had the largest single-year increase from last season's release among the eight teams that showed improvement with a 32-point increase. Houston Baseball, Men's Basketball, Men's Track & Field (Indoor & Outdoor), Women's Cross Country, Soccer and Swimming & Diving also increased their previous year's scores.
Three teams equaled their scores from the previous year, including two of the three programs with perfect scores, Men's Cross Country and Women's Golf, as well as Men's Golf with 994 points.
With last week's NCAA Public Recognition Awards for top 10 percent nationally in terms of APR scores, the Men's Cross Country program received the honor for the fourth consecutive year while it marked the second consecutive year Women's Golf received the honor.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.
