COLUMBUS, Ohio â€" The University of Houston Women's Golf program wrapped up its 2016-17 season by tying for 11th at the NCAA Columbus Regional on the historic Scarlet Course at Ohio State Golf Club.
Houston posted a team total of 305 in Wednesday's Final Round on the 6,416-yard, par-72 layout and finished with a 54-hole total of 928. The Cougars competed in the NCAA postseason for the third straight season, or every year in which the program has been eligible for NCAA Regional play.
For the second straight season, sophomore Leonie Harm led the Cougars in NCAA Regional play. The Gerlingen, Germany, native tied for 30th with a total of 228.
Junior Megan Thothong tied for 51st at 236, while junior Allie Andersen enjoyed the team's low round of the day with a 75 after tying for the team lead with three birdies and moved into a tie for 61st at 236.
Junior Courtney Tibiletti tied for 67th at 237, while junior Ivon Reijers finished in a tie for 72nd at 239.
No. 4 Florida and No. 12 South Carolina shared the team championship with a score of 886. No. 5 Florida State (891), No. 29 Ohio State (893), No. 27 Purdue (904) and No. 33 Michigan (908) joined them among the top-six leaders and will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Florida's Kelly Grassel and South Carolina's Ana Pelaez shared medalist honors with scores of even-par 216. South Carolina's Katelyn Dambaugh and Marta Martin Garcia of Purdue tied for third at 217.
Arkansas' Cara Gorlei (220), FIU's Camilia Serrano (220) and Texas A&M's Maddie Szeryk finished as the top-three individuals not on a qualifying team and will compete as individuals at the NCAA Championships.
NCAA REGIONAL HISTORY
This marked the third straight season in which the Cougars competed in NCAA Regional play.
A year ago, the Cougars finished seventh at the NCAA Baton Rouge and fell only two strokes shy of advancing to the NCAA Championships as a team for the first time in school history.
Harm tied for seventh at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional and competed as the 2016 NCAA Championships as an individual, the first Cougar representative to compete at the nation's top collegiate meet.
