SUGAR LAND, Texas â€" University of Houston junior Allie Anderson drained six birdies during the First Round of the Clemson Invitational and stood in a tie for second with a 69 Friday at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.
Andersen, who joined the Cougars this season after transferring from Colorado State, started her day on a rough note with a bogey but quickly regrouped.
The Woodlands, Texas, native moved back to even par on the next hole and then sank three birdies in a four-hole stretch midway through her front nine.
Andersen moved 4-under on the way with another birdie on the par-3 12th hole but suffered a bogey on No. 13. After another bogey on No. 16, she enjoyed her sixth and final birdie of the day on the par-5 17th hole and made par on No. 18 to finish with a 69.
Furman's Alice Chen held the First-Round lead with a 68. Andersen joined Texas' Sophia Schubert in a tie for second with Chieh Jessica Peng (Mississippi State), Allyson Geer (Michigan State) and Jessica Porvasnik (Ohio State) tied for fourth at 70.
She tied her career low, first set with Colorado State at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Oct. 27, 2015, and most recently tied during the Second Round of the Clover Cup on March 20.
As a team, the Cougars stood in sixth after posting a score of 294. No. 8 Furman held the First-Round lead at 285 to standing three strokes ahead of No. 5 Florida. No. 21 Texas (291) and No. 6 Florida State (291) rounded out the top-five leaders with Mississippi State (295), No. 43 Louisville (297), No. 24 Oklahoma (297), No. 30 Ohio State (298) and No. 42 Clemson (298) rounded out the top-11.
Junior Courtney Tibiletti stood in a tie for 27th with a 74, while junior Ivon Reijers was tied for 42nd at 75. Sophomore Leonie Harm was tied for 51st at 76th with junior Megan Thothong tied for 62nd with a 77.

SECOND-ROUND PAIRINGS
Saturday's First Round begins at 7 a.m. (CDT). The Cougars will compete in groups with No. 6 Florida State and No. 21 Texas, beginning at 10 a.m. (CDT) Saturday, off No. 1.
Thothong begins the day at 10 a.m. (CDT) with Harm (10:09 a.m. CDT), Reijers (10:18 a.m. CDT), Tibiletti (10:27 a.m. CDT) and Andersen (10:36 a.m. CDT) following.
UP NEXT
Following the Clemson Invitational, the Cougars enter the postseason when they compete at the American Athletic Conference Championships on The Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Golf & Spa Resort on April 16-18.
The Cougars look to defend their title from a year ago, the first in the program's young history.
