MESA, Ariz. â€" University of Houston junior Courtney Tibiletti tied a school record with a 66 in Friday's First Round to hold a share of the individual lead and guide the Cougars into fourth place as a team during the Clover Cup.
Competing on the 6,184-yard, par-72 course at Longbow Golf Club, Tibiletti drained 10 birdies to equal the mark first set by current teammate Leonie Harm during the MountainView Collegiate last week in Tucson, Ariz.
A native of Huntsville, Texas, Tibiletti started her day with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 1-2. After suffering a double-bogey 6 on No. 4, she regained those strokes with consecutives birdies on Nos. 4-5.
Tibiletti endured her first of two bogeys on No. 7 but moved to 3-under par on her front nine with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8-9.
She found trouble early on her back nine with a bogey on No. 11 and sank three straight pars before closing out with a record-setting finish. Tibiletti closed out her day with four straight birdies.
Tibiletti tied with Oklahoma's Julienne Soo for the first-day lead. Notre Dame's Isabella DiLisio stood in third with a 67 with Nebraska's Kate Smith, Linnea Strom of Arizona State and Florida State's Kim Metraux tied for fourth at 68.
As a team the Cougars posted a score of 1-under 287 to stand in fourth. Florida State held the first-day team lead with a score of 9-under 279, while Arizona State was in second 281. Oklahoma stood in third at 282 with host Notre Dame (292), TCU (292), FIU (294), Minnesota (300), Kentucky (301) and Cincinnati (301) rounding out the top-10 leaders.
