TUCSON, Ariz.â€" For the second straight day, University of Houston sophomore Leonie Harm led her team, and the Cougars posted a season-low team round of 1-under 287 to move into second place following the Second Round of the MountainView Collegiate.
Harm, who set a school record with a career-best 66 in Friday's First Round, followed with a 3-under 69 in Saturday's Second Round and was tied for second at 9-under 135 on the 6,210-yard, par-72 course.
The Gerlingen, Germany, native overcame a bogey on her second hole of the day and rallied with five birdies over the final 16 holes to lead the Cougars. She stood five strokes behind leader Wanasa Zhou of Arizona, who posted her second straight 65 on Saturday.
As a team, the Cougars lowered their First-Round score by four strokes and posted their second-lowest round of the year with a 1-under-par 287 for a two-day score of 578. Saturday's total trailed only the 286 the Cougars enjoyed in the Second Round of the Jim West Challenge on Oct. 9, 2016.
Arizona held the team lead at 561. New Mexico State stood in third at 580 with UNLV (589) and Oklahoma (590) rounding out the top-five leaders.
Harm was part of a steady effort by the Cougars as a team, which saw four of the five student-athletes in their lineup shoot 73 or lower.
Junior Megan Thothong started her day with a birdie on No. 4 and finished with two birdies in the round on the way to an even-par 72. The Dallas native was tied for 18th at 147.
Juniors Ivon Reijers and Courtney Tibiletti each posted 73s with three birdies apiece in Saturday's round. Reijers was tied for 12th at 146, while Tibiletti moved into a tie for 39th at 150.
Junior Allie Andersen was tied for 67th at 163.
Arizona's Haley Moore stood in third at 142, while Madison Talley (Kansas State), Emma Allen (Missouri), Camille Orito (New Mexico State) and Sandra Nordaas (Arizona) were tied for fourth at 143.
