NEW ORLEANS -- The University of Houston Women's Golf program stood in a tie for fourth place following the First Round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship on Sunday evening.
The Cougars used a steady effort throughout their lineup in their spring opener as a team on the 6,239-yard, par-72 course at English Turn Golf & Country Club to post a score of 292, tying with No. 3 Florida and No. 20 Oklahoma State for fourth.
Sophomore Leonie Harm, who captured the first title of her career at the Texas State Invitational on Feb. 14, continued her stellar play and was tied for 14th after shooting even-par 72.
No 11 Miami (Fla.) held the team lead with a score of 287 to stand three strokes ahead of Denver. No. 21 Texas was in third at 291 with No. 1 Stanford (293), No. 43 Clemson (295), No. 19 UCF (295) and No. 23 Arizona (295) rounding out the top-10 leaders.
Starting on No. 10, Harm moved to a quick start with a birdie on the par-5 11th hole. Although she battled bogeys on No. 14 and No. 18, the Gerlingen, Germany, native settled down with a birdie on No. 1 and closed her First Round with eight straight pars to lead the Cougars and tie for 14th.
Juniors Megan Thothong and Courtney Tibiletti joined Harm among the top-20 leaders with 73s. Tibiletti overcame two bogeys on her front nine to sink a pair of birdies in a five-hole stretch on her back nine.
Thothong made history in her opening round. After battling three bogeys on her front nine, the Dallas native settled down with seven straight pars as she approached the 146-yard eighth hole.
Thothong's tee shot hit the flag stick and dropped into the hole for her first hole-in-one in tournament play. She enjoyed a hole-in-one in a practice round earlier this month.
Thothong became only the second Cougar in school history to sink a hole-in-one in tournament action, joining Courtney Ferguson.
Junior Allie Andersen was tied for 32nd with a 75, while junior Ivon Reijers was tied for 74th with a 79.
Denver's Mariell Bruun and No. 62 Dewi Weber of Miami (Fla.) held the first-day lead with 68s, while Texas' Sophia Schubert was in third with a 69.
