DALLAS â€" University of Houston senior Alan De Bondt posted a 2-under 69 to lead the Cougars during the Final Round of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate and tied for 29th at 216 on Monday afternoon.
Starting his day on No. 11 on the 7,068-yard course at Royal Oaks Country Club, De Bondt was a steady performer throughout the day. The Antwerp, Belgium, native sank a birdie on No. 14 and followed with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole before sinking eight straight pars.
De Bondt enjoyed his third and final birdie of the day on the 393-yard, par-4 ninth hole for his final individual standing.
As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 292 for the third straight round and finished 13th at 876.
Host and seventh-ranked Baylor captured the team championship with a score of 25-under 827 to finish 19 strokes ahead of No. 17 Arkansas. Minnesota (848), No. 14 Kent State (849) and Michigan (856) rounded out the top-10 team leaders.
Baylor's Cooper Dossey fired his third straight round in the 60s to earn medalist honors with a score of 11-under 202. He finished four strokes ahead of New Mexico's Andre Garcia. Braden Bailey (Baylor) and Nick Carlson of Michigan tied for third at 207.
Senior Michael Perras finished at 215 and tied for 26th. Playing as an individual, sophomore George Gardner tied with De Bondt for 29th at 216, while senior Papito Gonzalez tied for 58th at 224. Junior Matt Williams tied for 68th at 227, while sophomore Zach Tracy finished 71st at 229.
UP NEXT
Following the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, the Cougars close out their fall season with a trip west when they compete at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic on Oct. 23-24 at Ka'anapali Golf Club in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i.
From there, the Cougars will take a break before opening the spring season at their own All-American Intercollegiate on Feb. 16-18, 2018, at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
