Houston Defeats UIW in Season Opener

SAN ANTONIO, Texas â€" The Houston Swim & Dive team notched 38 top-three finishes en route to a 182-110 win over Incarnate Word in its season opener.
Houston won 11 of the 16 events at the meet, securing 38 top-three finishes. Micaela Bouter got things started for Houston with a first-place finish in the 3-Meter Springboard. The senior tallied up a final of score of 328.25 in the event. Lauren Burrell followed that up with second-place finish after racking up a final score of 295.90.
The Cougars took all three top spots in the 1000-yard Freestyle, led by freshman Reese Lamph with a first-place finish. Conor Glenn and Hannah Herbst rounded out the top three spots in the event.
Three more Cougars took the top-three spots in the 200-yard Freestyle, led by Zarena Brown who took first-place in the event. Samantha Medlin took second-place, followed by Ksenia Yuskova in third.
Laura Laderoute beat out the field in the 100-yard Breaststroke. Rebecca Brandt, Sharo Rodriguez, and Rebecca Cox took all three of the top spots in the 200-yard Butterfly.
Three more Cougars swept the podium in the 50-yard Freestyle, followed by second and third-place finishes by Bouter and Burrell in the 1-Meter Springboard.
Mykenzie Leehy notched a first-place finish in the 100-yard Freestyle to kick start her collegiate career, followed by three top-three finishes in the 200-yard Backstroke for Houston.
Houston rounded out the top-four spots in the 500-yard Freestyle, led by a top finish from Brown.
Both the 400 IM and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay were carried out as exhibition events, Houston took first-place in both events.
UP NEXT
Houston will head home to the friendly confines of the CRWC Natatorium to host SMU in a conference clash Oct. 20, followed by a meeting with North Texas on Oct. 21.
