WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Some of the nation's top athletes will be in action at the Houston Invitational, including five Cougar student-athletes ranked inside the top-50 in their respective events.
In the 60-meter dash, Mario Burke and Cameron Burrell are scheduled to make their returns to the straight track. Burke posted the fifth fastest time in the NCAA (6.65) to win the event at the Mark Colligan Memorial last week, while Burrell's 6.66 at the Leonard Hilton Invitational ranks No. 13 in the nation.
Sophomore Amere Lattin debuted in the 60-meter hurdles in the first meet of the season, the Reveille Invitational, where he ran 7.85. Entering competition this weekend, Lattin holds the No. 10 mark in the nation.
In the field events, Cameron Cornelius enters the shot put competition with the No. 31 mark in the nation. Cornelius threw 59-1.5 (18.02m) at the Leonard Hilton Invitational earlier this month, and has won all three of the competitions he has competed in this season.
In the jumps, junior Tonye'cia Burks enters the triple jump competition with the No. 31 mark in the nation after jumping a personal-best 40-11.5 (12.48m) at the Leonard Hilton. In the pole vault, Haley Houston's top mark of 12-11.75 (3.96m) at the Reveille Invitational sits No. 42 on the national list.
